Has a van marked "Arch Smallgoods" in Lydiard St North. Shows the Mair St traffic light, and Railway Hotel on the corner. In the background is the George Hotel, St Paul's Technical College, and Union Fidelity Trustee Company buildings in the background. Set of 7 transparencies taken undated (appear to be 1970 or 71) on PAKON mounts. Also possibly copy slides as quality is poorish. 1175.1 - No. 27 has derailed at Depot, across Wendouree Parade, and No. 33 appears to be about to try and tow it back on. Wendouree Parade totally blocked. Adjacent pole has tram stop sign and has "Stafford Court" street sign mounted on it. 1175.2 - No. 43 at corner of Drummond St. South and Dana Street, with destination Lydiard St. North. 1175.3 - No. 42 (Mt Pleasant) and 21 (Gardens via Sturt St. West) crossing at Gardens Loop. 1175.4 - No. 42 bound for Lydiard St. Nth at intersection with Macarthur St. Shows the retaining wall for the cutting on the east side of Lydiard St. Nth. 1175.5 - No. 43 at corner of Lydiard St and Sturt St., at city terminus showing "Special" and tram 35 adjacent to Post Office in Lydiard St. Nth. Yields information about the formation of the BTPS in 1971 and some of the people who attended meetings etc. and about the closure of the Ballarat tramway system.Two Newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday, 31/5/1971, titled "Society formed to Preserve Trams" (newspaper date, with page 2), about the formation the previous day of the BTPS at a meeting of the Lake Wendouree Tramway Museum Committee with a membership of 55 people to retain a tourist tram system for Ballarat. Gives names of the elected office bearer, details of proposals, some costs, alternative sites and that a tram was chartered before the meeting. 1071.1 - photocopy of the article added 24/1/2008. Has the names of those elected highlighted in pink ink. Second cutting dated "14/7/71" from the Courier titled "Three stage plan for phasing out of trams" of the three stage plan for phasing out of the trams in Ballarat. The plan was announced by Transport Regulation Board the previous day. Cutting from the "For the Record" section of The Courier, Ballarat's weekend magazine of Saturday August 12, 1995 about the location of Ballarat's first set of traffic lights. Were at the corners Mair St. with the intersection of Doveton, Armstrong and Lydiard Streets. The latter had trams at the time. They became operational about May 1970. Generally understood not installed at other streets at the times because of the complexity of the tramway system and its impending closure. Functional Object - Point Bar, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1960's
Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean.
